Since 1994 Women in Technology (WIT) has supported the professional aspirations of women within the Greater Washington community. In 2010, The Leadership Foundry began collaboration with American University’s Kogod School of Business to study gender diversity and its effect within the boardroom. The resulting annual report includes publicly traded companies within Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. It was following the production of the first report in 2010 that The Leadership Foundry was created.

Each year the report evolves to expose the benefits of gender diversity in the boardroom and to look at ways to improve the numbers. In the 2017 report, the focus was on board refreshment. It looks at board evaluations, term limits and mandatory retirement age as potential factors that could leave to achieving greater diversity on boards.

The Leadership Foundry will continue to support and advocate on the behalf of women through outreach to companies who stand to reap the greatest benefit by increasing board diversity.
